Fishing Report Thursday 29/7/10

The cool water rhythm continues to roll on in Sydney but there are fish out there for those who require the fix. Some big snapper continue to tangle with anglers in some suprisingly shallow inshore water, and the key has been to fish as light as you dare (say 20lb maximum) in conjunction with a fresh unbroken burley trail. These big fish haven't survived so long in heavily fished waters for no reason. If there are some big kingies about then anglers are keeping their cards close to their chests, although the deeper reefs would be the starting point. The jigging crew should be donging a few kings on the head now if the leatherjackets allow.
The salmon schools continue to feed sporadically around the heads and into the sound, and fly or small plastics remains the gun technique. The schools of striped tuna that entertained light-tackle fishos last week seem to have rocketed further south, true to their nature. Still, August, September and October can see them turning up inshore again, and a chromie such as a 25gm sniper will be perfect to punch into the school.
On the rocks a few platey snapper have fallen to plastics and long-cast baits. Drummer and big bream can be found at your feet should you be burleying, and some large silver drummer will be floating around on cunji baits and these rogues can top 6kg.
Some average dusky flathead have been taking small and large lures in the harbour, mixed in with some patches of trevally feeding along the bottom. The little nipper-legged Damiki MonsterMiki is a great artificial for the trevally, ideal for them to hoover up off the bottom. Sand flathead are being taken on the drift off south head, and blackfish small and large are still making their presence felt and can be relied on for a feed when all else is shut down.
Good luck and tight lines from Fish Outta Water
