Fishing Report
Thursday 25th June 2009
Rain rain rain! Consistent stuff hey? Fortunately the angling action has been just as consistent. Reports from offshore have been somewhat scant, although things seem to be picking up with some nice 'fin schooling out wide up to about 40kg, mixed with some nice albacore. Cubing has been the hot technique and several anglers have been having success trialling fluorocarbon leaders in the 60-100lb range. The water off sydney is still a little warm for some true jumbo action.
During the couple of warm, sunny and rainless (!) days we've had, some solid cephalopods have been hungry, chewing up 3.0-3.5 yamashita and yo-zuri squid jigs. This reporter spent one warm afternoon dashing along the ocean rocks with a light 3m graphite stick and a handful of aforementioned jigs, taking seven nice squid. The rock spinmen have been nailing a few sambos with the odd bonito mixed in. These late season fish are generally up in size with good condition.
In the harbour trevally ranks are rising, with a few nice fish now turning up in berley trails and taking 3" flickbait plastics. Some nice flounder and some bluenose bream are climbing onto these little jigs too. Flathead are still around, although they do become inactive due to the cooler water and will seemingly go to "sleep".
